Tourism in Costa Rica receives the majority of its tourist arrivals from the Americans. The tourism arrivals increase from 1.72 mn in the year 2006 to 2.15 mn in the year 2008. And it dipped to 1.93 mn in the year 2009. The numbers went up in the year 2010 to 2011 and for that the tourists in 2012 will reach up to 2.47 mn which grows at an average rate of 7 percent until the end of 2015. The health tourism brings the people from Traveling to Costa Rica. And this is an area where Costa Rica can continue its development in their infrastructure to tap further into growing market. Costa Rica is already known as the medical destination from whom many people from other countries travel abroad for their medical care. Also, Cost Rica is making the retirement communities a priority in order to keep the tourist numbers up. The target of the Costa Rican is the North American pensioners. The campaign is run by the Costa Rica Tourism Board that offers tax exemptions on the vehicles and real estate. Another tourism draw in Costa Rica is the wellbeing and spa vacations. The country is recognized as one of the best places in South and Central America to enjoy various spa getaways. Some of the wellbeing tourists are visiting the hot springs, the nature setting of the region of Central Valley, and the beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula.
The high season for tourism in Costa Rica runs from late November up to late April which coincides perfectly with the chill of the winter in the countries of Canada, Great Britain, and United States. The dry season is also a high season for tourism in Costa Rica. During this season, the tourism industry of the country is operating at its full length where prices are higher, the attractions are crowded, and the reservation is needed to be made in advance.
Costa Rica is one of the tropical countries and has very distinct dry and wet seasons. Some of the regions are rainy all year round while others are very dry and sunny for the entire year. The temperatures of the country vary primarily with the elevations. On the coast of Costa Rica, the temperature is hot all year. In the mountain, it can be cool anytime at night. Generally the rainy season is known as the green season and this starts at May to mid November. The dry season on the other hand is considered as the summer by the Costa Rican and it starts from mid November to April. In general, the best time of the year in Costa Rica is in December and January since everything is still green from the rains but the sky is still clear. 
The declaration of 2012 as the year of sustainable tourism is part of the strategy of the Government of Costa Rica. This is to increase the number of the European tourists in the country which currently 10% of the annual visitors in the region. In order for the program to increase in number, several types of actions are reinforced like climate change, management of the natural disasters, and the fight against social exclusion and poverty.
